The teams played to a tie at 8-8, before Coker took control of the set and went ahead 20-14 in the set. The Cobras went on to win five of the final seven points to take the opening set.
UNC Pembroke would rally for three straight set victories to take the match.
Emily Everton paced the Cobras with a match-high 16 kills, while Chelsey Blume also finished in double-digits with 13. Six other Cobras registered kills in the match. Ashley Carson led the way with 18 kills, while Rami Mullen added 15 and three others each contributed assists in the match. Alex Williams posted a team-best 11 digs in the match, while eight others recorded digs in the contest. Blume recorded Coker's lone solo block in the match, while Naomi Earl-Reyes had two block assists and Blume and Carson Fuller each registered one.
The Cobras return to conference action Thursday night (Sept. 16) to take on Lenoir-Rhyne. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. from Hickory, N.C., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
