
Mars Hill wins third straight, downs C-N in four
The Mars Hill volleyball team (13-8, 7-7 SAC) defeated Carson-Newman (12-15, 9-6 SAC) in four sets (19-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-21) inside Chambers Gymnasium Wednesday evening.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (13-8, 7-7 SAC) defeated Carson-Newman (12-15, 9-6 SAC) in four sets (19-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-21) inside Chambers Gymnasium Wednesday evening.
A late rally in the first saw the Eagles erase a five-point deficit en route to taking the frame, 25-19. They hit a team-high .289 with 16 kills in the frame.
Mars Hill dictated play in the second, hitting a match-high .300 with 13 kills on 40 attempts with just one error. In the third, a tense back-and-forth in the latter stages saw the Lions escape with the 25-23 edge.
The Lions closed out the pivotal contest hitting .125 in the fourth with 12 kills, holding Carson-Newman to a match-low .049 hitting percentage, forcing nine Eagles' attack errors.
Julia Wheeler led all players with 19 kills, adding 17 digs for the double-double. Taylor Adams added 14 kills and hit a team-high .379.
Jada Cannon and Nikkayla Stewart led the Lions with 13 kills apiece. Stewart hit a match-high .545, adding a match-high seven blocks (1 BS, 6 BA). Laela Jimenez led all players with 32 digs while Jordan Schmucker led all players with 36 assists. She added seven kills and digs, and a team-high three aces.
Mars Hill takes on Wingate on Friday, November 3 on the road. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
