Women’s Soccer Drops SAC Season Opener at Wingate; 1-0

WINGATE, N.C. - A Wingate goal in the 66th minute proved to be the difference, as Anderson University women's fails to win its South Atlantic Conference season opener, falling 1-0 Saturday evening at the WU Soccer Complex.

With the setback, Anderson drops its third straight match while posting a 1-3-1 overall record overall and 0-1 in the SAC. With the victory, Wingate improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

The Bulldogs outshot the Trojans 12-4 on the night while holding a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Just inside the 66th minute, Colleen Zickert punched in a saved deflected ball by Trojan keeper Abby Helm that found the back of the empty net. Zickert's goal proved to be the game-winner.

Helm recorded four saves on the evening while Wingate's keeper Alexis Jones tallied two saves on the way to the shutout.

Anderson returns to action when it host SAC opponent Coker on Wednesday. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Trojan Stadium.
