DUNCAN, S.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (8-9) swept Converse (3-15) by scores of 12-0 and 3-1, respectively.
GAME ONE: MHU 12, CON 0
The Lions dominated play in game one as Marissa Adame struck out 12 in six innings for her fifth win of the season.
Adame got plenty of run support, kicked off with Brookelynn Nanney's RBI double in the top of the first. The Lions plated three more in the second inning, highlighted by Danielle Harris' two-run home run.
The Lions plated seven in the top of the sixth. Sydney Craig put the Lions up by 10 with a two-run single, plating Maggie Langheim and Ashley Evans.
Harris went 4-for-4 with three RBI while Nanney, Craig, and Ashley Hamlin each added two hits.
Adame allowed only three hits on the afternoon in the complete game victory.
GAME TWO: MHU 3, CON 1
Ashley Hamlin drove in all three Mars Hill runs to complete the sweep of the Valkyries Thursday night.
Trailing 1-0 after three, Hamlin's two-run double in the top of the fourth drove in Alicia Wittenhagen and Paige Jeffries.
She added to her offensive performance in the top of the sixth with a RBI triple that plated Maggie Langheim.
Ryan Finazzo opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a RBI single to left field, plating Julianne Outlaw.
Hamlin, Langheim, and Danielle Harris each recorded two hits to lead the Lions. Dallas Singleton and Allison Plafcan each went 2-for-3 for Converse.
Kayla Gallagher earned her third win of the season, striking out three and allowing one run on five hits in 5.1 innings pitched. Marissa Adame picked up her first save of the season.
The Lions doubleheader versus Tusculum for Saturday, March 13 has been postponed. Mars Hill returns to action on Sunday, March 14 when they travel to face Bluefield State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
