Women’s Tennis Defeats Carson-Newman; 7-2

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. – The Anderson University women's tennis team picked up its second South Atlantic Conference win of the year by defeating Carson-Newman, 7-2 Sunday afternoon at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex.

With the win, Anderson improves to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in conference action. As a result of their solid play, the Trojans have won four straight matches. With the loss, Carson-Newman drops to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the SAC.

In the doubles action, the Trojans took a 2-1 advantage with No. 3 Ivey Welborn and Jennifer Holcombe (AU) defeating Lindy Tatum and Sydney Ledington (C-N), 8-2 to pick up the first point of the day. At the No. 1 position Laura Dean and Rebecca Bruning (AU) won over Ali Harris and Jill Corsato (C-N), 8-3 to put the Black and Gold up 2-0. Carson-Newman's No. 2 tandem, Alisa Liashova and Klara Vuckovic were able to redeem a point with an 8-3 win over Delaney Wiggins and Jacqueline Olivia.

In singles play, the Trojans won five of the six matches with Welborn's (AU) win over Liashova clinching the match for Anderson.

Anderson returns to action on Monday when it travels to nonconference opponent Columbia. First serve is slated for 2:30 p.m.
