
Lions felled in non-conference action versus USC AIken

AIKEN, S.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (6-24) was swept by USC Aiken (21-16) in non-conference play by scores of 15-7 and 4-3 Sunday afternoon.
GAME ONE: USCA 15, MHU 7
The Pacers scored eight runs in the first two innings of play, leading them to a game one 15-7 win.
Emily Ayers collected three RBI in the two innings, highlighted by her two-run home run in the bottom of the first. Both teams traded a run apiece in the third, both off of solo home runs from Maggie Langheim and Brianna Dow.
Zoie Pistel's two-run home run in the top of the fourth cut the deficit to five before Langheim's RBI double later in the frame brought the Lions to within four. Langheim, in the top of the sixth, blasted her second home run of the game and picked up her fourth RBI of the contest.
Both Dow and Langheim went 4-for-4 from the plate with Langheim leading the Lions with four RBI. Ayers led the Pacers with four RBI as well, also going a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate.
Payton Baker struck out six in 5.1 innings pitched, allowing four runs on 11 hits for the win. Kayla Gallagher suffered the loss, allowing nine earned runs on 13 hits in two innings.
GAME TWO: USCA 4, MHU 3
The Pacers were able to hold off a late Lions' push to secure the Sunday sweep.
Maggie Langheim continued her hot hitting streak, tying the game at two in the top of the third with her third home run of the day, a two-run shot that scored Alexis McCrary.
The Pacers plated a run apiece in the third and fourth, going up 4-2. A sacrifice fly by Maegan Blair in the top of the sixth pulled the Lions within one.
Langheim went 2-for-3 in the game two, collecting another two RBI on the day. Shircoria Bosket went 2-for-2 from the plate for USC Aiken, leading all players with three RBI.
Lakyn Phillips won her eighth game of the season, striking out eight while allowing three runs on three hits in the complete game. Deja Smith was credited with the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in 4.1 innings.
The Lions return to South Atlantic Conference Play on Wednesday, April 13 when they face Limestone. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Ponder Field.
