Hartsville, SC - After a strong first-half fight, the Cobras fell to the mighty Lander Bearcats this afternoon on the Coker Athletic Turf

How It Happened

A much tighter contest early on than the final score states, the first quarter started out well for the Cobras. Down 2-0, a Ford unassisted goal cut the deficit to just one and got the crowd going. After a series of goals by Lander, Habel found the back of the net off a pass from Rumbaugh to make it a 5-2 game.

The Cobras then traded goals with Lander as the Bearcats took a 6-2 lead but was quickly answered by a Hiltz goal off a Ryan Forehand assist to make it 6-3. From that point, Lander went on a big run and put some space between the two teams. After a lull, Rumbaugh found the back of the net on an unassisted goal to cap off the scoring for Coker in this one.

Notables

It was a big day for Will Habel, making his return to the lacrosse field for the first time in 672 days after receiving a cancer diagnosis. After months and months of chemotherapy, Habel rang the bell this summer to declare himself cancer-free. He returned to team activities this past fall and made a triumphant return to the turf today with a goal, on his 22nd birthday nonetheless.

The Cobras will now head on a four-game away slate, kicking off with Lees-McRae this upcoming Saturday, February 8th. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 PM ET in that one.
