
Davis nets 1,000th career point in high-scoring affair against Coker
Kory Davis becomes the second player this season to join the 1,000 career point club.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (6-13, 4-13 SAC) was defeated by Coker (14-6, 10-6 SAC) by a score of 131-117 Saturday evening.
Kory Davis, with his 18 points on the night, eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark, joining Kadyn Dawkins as the other Lion to hit the milestone this season. He becomes the 31st member of the club. He needed 13 points heading into the game.
The first half saw an offensive explosion as Coker led 69-58 entering the half. Jonah Vaysbakh led the team with 14 points while Sebastian Cole added 13. The Cobras hit 13 threes, shooting over 59 percent from beyond the arc.
The Lions were led by Dawkins' 21 points as he went 7-for-10 from the floor and 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. Dinari Boykin added 15 points in the frame, going a perfect 4-for-4 and hitting all five free throw attempts. Mars Hill shot 58 percent from the floor and nearly 54 percent from three, hitting seven-of-13 shots.
The offensive display continued for both teams as they combined for 121 points. Ian Blue led Coker with 17 while Glenn Bynum Jr. added 15. Dawkins led the Lions with 13, hitting another three threes, falling just one shy of tying the school record for most in a game. Davis and Jace Williams each netted 10 in the half. Defensively, Blair Crutcher led all players with eight rebounds in the half.
Dawkins led all players with a season-high 34 points, tying a career-high. Boykin finished the night with 21 points while Davis added 18, hitting 14 free throws. Crutcher led all players with 11 rebounds.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday, February 5 when they face Carson-Newman. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
