MHU doubles up Tusculum, nets 20 in win
Sam Arendt nets seven while AJ Howland wins 27 faceoffs in dominant win at home.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse (8-4, 4-2 SAC) defeated Tusculum (3-8, 0-6 SAC) by a score of 20-10 Saturday afternoon.
Despite going down 3-0 in the first seven minutes, the Lions were able to strike twice in the first to enter the second down 4-2. Sam Arendt scored both Mars Hill goals.
In the second quarter, after giving up the first goal of the frame, Mars Hill reeled off six straight goals with Brandon Woodward netting the hat-trick. Arendt completed his hat-trick bid while Josh McCallion and Cole Ross each netted one apiece.
Mars Hill continued their offensive dominance, scoring seven in the third and holding Tusculum scoreless in the frame. McCallion and Ross each scored twice while Arendt netted three goals.
With Ben Hokenson's goal just 48 seconds into the fourth, the Lions netted 14 straight goals before Tusculum struck for three in just over three minutes. Arendt scored his seventh of the game with 8:06 remaining while Luke Moore added a pair of goals.
Jimmy Erickson struck with less than a minute to play as Moore assisted on the tally.
Arendt led all players with eight points (7G, 1A) followed by five points from Woodward (3G, 2A). Austin Stroud led all players with four assists.
AJ Howland won 27-of-32 faceoffs, scooping up a game-high 10 groundballs in a dominant performance in the faceoff circle.
Shane Hecht made five saves for his seventh win of the season. Xavier Wells played just under 12 minutes stopping four shots on seven attempts.
Mars Hill faces Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday, April 2 at 4 p.m. on the road.
