Anderson, S.C. - Anderson University Softball defeated Wingate winning game one, 5-4 and winning game two, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex. Anderson improves to 22-4 overall and 10-2 in SAC action, while the Bulldogs fall to 8-10 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
"Harlie and Sarah did a super job in the circle today," said head coach Tommy Hewitt. "So proud of the way the team responds to all the predicaments the game throws at them, bending but not breaking....."
Game 1 Summary
Anderson 5 Wingate 4
Wingate scored first crossing the plate one time in the second inning. Anderson responded in the third inning with a three runs, highlighted by junior Morgan Charter's three-run blast.
The Bulldogs scored three of their own in the fifth inning to take a, 4-3, lead. AU's junior Kayson Boatner drilled a solo shot to tie the game at four piece. Anderson scored the go ahead run with one out in the bottom of the sixth when sophomore Hope Gullatt tripled to right field. Senior Kennedy Burton's hit to center field drove in the game winning run, 5-4.
Freshman Laken Maxwell got the start, pitching 4.2 innings, giving up four hits and striking out five. Sarah Middleton (4-1) earned the win pitching 2.1 innings. Middleton gave up three hits with one strikeout.

KEY TROJANS
Anderson jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the bottom of the first inning, scoring three more runs in the fourth inning. Trojans defense and stellar pitching by senior Harlie Duncan (10-1) had the Bulldog bats quiet. Duncan pitched the complete game, scattering seven hits and striking out nine batters.
-Boatner, Jessica Neadow and Abi Webb each went 2-for-3.
-Hannah Whitaker batted 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
