Lions swept by No. 24 Newberry
The Mars Hill baseball team (11-15, 2-9 SAC) was swept by No. 24 Newberry (22-7, 8-1 SAC) Saturday afternoon, dropping game one by a score of 14-5 and game two by a score of 2-1.

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (11-15, 2-9 SAC) was swept by No. 24 Newberry (22-7, 8-1 SAC) Saturday afternoon, dropping game one by a score of 14-5 and game two by a score of 2-1.
GAME ONE: NBY 14, MHU 5
The Wolves used a seven-run fifth inning to propel themselves to the 14-5 game one win over Mars Hill. Tied at two, Newberry's Dalton Lansdowne drove in Ian Clements with a RBI single to center field to take the 3-2 lead. Danton Hyman plated Lansdowne with a RBI double and later scored off of an infield single from the bat of Aidan Baur. Later in the frame, up by five, Clements' two-run single expanded the Newberry lead to 9-2 entering the sixth inning.
Both teams traded a run in the sixth inning and in the seventh, Clements picked up his third RBI of the game off of a solo home run. The Lions scored once in the top of the eighth off of a Daniel Vitello RBI single, but the Wolves responded in the bottom half of the frame, tacking on three more runs. Paul Martin's RBI single in the top of the ninth was the fifth and final run for Mars Hill.
After allowing the first run in the first inning, Mars Hill tied the game in the top of the second off of Devin Mangum's solo home run. They took the lead in the top of the third off of Austin Purser's RBI single, but the Wolves tied the game in the bottom half off of Zane Tarrance's single to right field that scored Danton Hyman.
Hyman went 4-for-4 in the game with two RBI while Clements led all players with three RBI. Martin led the Lions with two hits and two RBI. Matt Honeycutt added two hits and two runs.
Tomas Sorcia, Jr. picked up the win, allowing three runs on 10 hits in seven innings pitched while striking out seven. Cameron Howell was credited with the loss, giving up five runs on six hits in four innings.
GAME TWO: NBY 2, MHU 1
Newberry's Tyler White completed the sweep for the Wolves with a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh, taking the game 2-1. White singled to left field, allowing Peyton Spangler to score the game-winning run.
The Lions took the 1-0 lead in the top of the first off of Scottie Lee's RBI single to right field that plated Brett Brubaker. Mars Hill held the lead until the fourth inning.
Dalton Lansdowne singled to right field to score Nick Butler for the tying run.
White led all players with three hits in the contest. Lee, Brubaker and Jordan Lathe were responsible for all three Mars Hill hits.
Josh Bookbinder earned the complete game win, striking out five while allowing one run on three hits. Troy Hall suffered the loss, allowing two runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings pitched.
The Lions return home on Wednesday, March 20th when they host Southern Wesleyan in non-conference play. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
