Coker Wins First Game of the Season Over Erskine College

Tigerville, S.C. - Coker University Men's Basketball Team won their first game of the season on Friday (Nov. 11th) by  a score of 77-72 over Erskine College.

Coker Men's Bsketball would start the game point for point with Erskine College, staying under ten points for the first five minutes of the game. Once at the six minute mark, Coker rattled off five unanswered points putting the Flying Fleet down 3-9. Coker continued to lead for the entirety of the first half, at most being up by nine points. The Cobras would leave the first half with only a two point deficit (28-26).

Starting off the second half of the game, the Cobras put up seven points with no response from the Flying fleet. Although the lead would fluctuate for the remainder of the game, Coker and Erskine would never swap leads. The Cobras would hold a double digit lead up until the final minute, Erskine scoring a total of forty-two points over fourteen minutes. Even with a large push from Erskine to bring the game within two possessions, the Cobras would hold and finish the game at 77-72.

The Cobras shot 42.9 percent from the field, including another 23.1 percent from beyond the arc. Marvin Brumfield had a game-high of eighteen points, twelve of those points in the paint. Jordan Jones (17) and Demar Anderson (16) followed closely behind with a combined thirty-three points, while seven others added to the total of seventy-seven points. Even though Erskine out-worked Coker in rebounds, the Cobras still registered a total of thirty-three rebounds for the game. Jordan Jones would collect eight to lead the team, while nine others would register steals. Of the seven assists, Jordan Jones put up four. Zavier Measmer (1), Xavier Moultrie (1), and Tate Mulkey (1) would also aid in the assist game. For a team total of seven steals, Demar Anderson (1), Jordan Jones (4), Mahmoud Bangura (1), and Glenn Bynum Jr. (1) would contribute. Mahmoud Bangura would be the only block for the Cobras.
