
Mars Hill splits with Coker on road
The Mars Hill softball team (14-20, 4-10 SAC) split with Coker (8-27, 1-15 SAC), taking game one by a score of 6-3, but dropping game two by a score of 9-5.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (14-20, 4-10 SAC) split with Coker (8-27, 1-15 SAC), taking game one by a score of 6-3, but dropping game two by a score of 9-5.
GAME ONE: MHU 6, COK 3
After leading 1-0 after the first, Mars Hill played two in the fourth to bump their lead to three. Payton Little posted a RBI double while Maia Sholter added a RBI single.
In the top of the seventh, Miranda Marks smashed a three-run home run to build the Lions lead to six. Coker's Mya Cribbs cut the lead in half with a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.
Marks and Little led all players with two hits while Marks and Cribbs led their respective teams with three RBI.
Kayla Gallagher picked up the win, striking out four in the complete game effort.
GAME TWO: COK 9, MHU 5
The Cobras' offense carried the team to their first South Atlantic Conference win of the season, earning the split.
Abbie McCants went 4-for-4 with a trio of RBI doubles on the day. She led all players with four hits and four RBI.
Both Farley Park and Maia Sholter hit solo home runs for the Lions while, in the top of the seventh, Katie Todd plated two with a single to left.
Todd and Jessica Senn led Mars Hill with three hits apiece.
Mars Hill travels to Greeneville, Tennessee on Saturday, April 6 when they face Tusculum. First pitch for the SAC doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
