Balanced Offense Leads Bentley to 11-5 Victory at Catawba

SALSBURY, N.C. – Nine different players scored, led by a hat trick from sophomore Scott Carvalho (Wayland, Mass./Wayland), as the Bentley men's lacrosse team went on the road and defeated Catawba in North Carolina on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference affair.

Though Carvalho led the way with a hat trick, he wasn't alone as eight of his teammates each scored. Junior goalie Ben Bath (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) earned his first career victory in Bentley's winning effort.

A big first quarter by the Falcons was the catalyst to the win. After the opening five minutes of the quarter were scoreless, Bentley scored four times in a four minute span. Goals by John Wheeler (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and Joe DiRaimo (Huntington, N.Y./John Glenn) came in between two straight goals by Carvalho, as the Falcons led 4-0 with six minutes left in the quarter. Goals by Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) and Max Adler (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Northfield) in the final 2:40 ensured Bentley finished strong.

The Falcons also controlled the second quarter, as the only goals went their way off the sticks off freshmen Nigel Reiff (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) and Matt Brooks (Brunswick, Maine/Phillips Exeter) to lead 8-2 at the break.

Bentley didn't allow Catawba to get much closer in the 2nd half, as they limited them to just three goals and 11 total shots. In the 4th quarter, Carvalho finished off his hat trick as he scored the game's final goal with 5:35 remaining.

The Falcons evened their record to 1-1 on the season. They're back in action on March 18 when they open NE10 play at Franklin Pierce.
