Men’s Soccer Defeats Catawba; 2-1

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University men's soccer picked up a home win, 2-1, over South Atlantic Conference opponent Catawba on Saturday evening at Trojan Stadium. The Trojans are 7-0-1 all-time against the Indians since the series began in 2010.

With the win, the Trojans move to 6-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in SAC play while the Indians fall to 1-9-1 overall and 1-5-1 in conference action. The Trojans are 7-0-1 all-time against the Indians since the series began in 2010.

After a scoreless first half, sophomore Colin Burris connected with junior Gabriel Homen in the 49th minute to put the Trojans up, 1-0. Burris chipped the ball over to Homen who was able to place the header past the keeper for his second goal of the season.

The Trojans struck again in the 69th minute when freshman Thomas Joergsholm led Burris with Burris putting the hard shot past the keeper for his second goal of the season.

Catawba was awarded penalty kicks in the 38th and 80th minute, but could not capitalize on either try. The Indians were able to score in the 89th minute to avoid the shutout.

Anderson's freshman Gal Elyashiv recorded four saves on the evening moving his overall record to 6-2-1.

The Black and Gold return to action when they travel to SAC opponent Queens. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
