Lions fall to Lander, Augusta at SAC/PBC Crossover

HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (15-6) was defeated by both Lander (16-8) and Augusta (20-5) Saturday afternoon as part of the SAC/PBC Crossover.
LAN 3, MHU 1
The Bearcats downed Mars Hill in the Lions' first of two matches Saturday afternoon in four sets (28-30, 18-25, 25-15, 17-25).
Lander hit .242 as a team, including a match-high .359 in the second frame. Mars Hill hit a team-high .256 in the third to avoid the sweep, but committed 10 errors on 34 swings in the fourth, hitting .029 in the final frame.
Katie Miller recorded a match-high 22 kills and hit .404 while adding 20 digs.
Four Lions posted double-digit kills, led by Sarah Goddard's 12 on the afternoon. Jana Cuk recorded 11 while Jada Cannon and Nikkayla Stewart each racked up 10 kills apiece. Jordan Schmucker had 45 assists while Laela Jimenez led the team with 18 kills.
AUG 3, MHU 0
The Lions were swept (20-25, 20-25, 21-25) versus the PBC-leading Augusta Jaguars to conclude their tournament.
Augusta hit .242 in the match including a match-high .393 in the third set. They were led by Jazmyn Wheeler who recorded 17 kills and hit .368 on the day.
Sarah Goddard led the Lions with 15 kills followed by 12 from Jana Cuk. Jordan Schmucker led the Lions with 29 assists while collecting 10 digs. Jada Cannon led the Lions with 14 digs.
Mars Hill returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Tuesday, October 25 when they take on Carson-Newman on the road. First serve is set for 6 pm.
