
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Newberry College defeated Tusculum University 4-2 in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The 35th-ranked Wolves (6-3, 3-1 SAC) dropped the doubles point to the Pioneers (0-5, 0-2 SAC), but won four out of five in singles to take the victory.
In doubles, Tusculum swept Newberry as Elodie Baechler and Ylva Frafjord Landa beat Emma Arnal and Renee Dorval 7-5 at flight one, Valeria Diaz and Katie Bradley beat Margarita Roshka and Alexa Gamborino-Suarez 7-6 (8-6) at flight two, and Thilda Danielsson teamed with Samira Butt to defeat Lina Sarhan and Aina Miralles 6-4 at flight three.
Tusculum's lone win in singles came at flight two, where Landa beat Roshka 6-4, 6-1. However, Newberry won the other four matches in straight sets including a 6-4, 7-5 win by Sarhan over Diaz at flight three to clinch the victory.
The Pioneers host Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday, March 11 at 11 a.m. The Railsplitters (8-7, 0-3 SAC) have dropped three in a row including a 4-0 loss at Coker on Saturday.
