
Lions swept on road versus Wingate
The Mars Hill softball team (17-8, 2-2 SAC) was defeated by Wingate (22-8, 5-1 SAC) by scores of 2-0 and 12-0 in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday afternoon.

GAME ONE: WU 2, MHU 0
The Bulldogs used three doubles in the second inning to go up 2-0 over Mars Hill, a lead they would not relinquish. Aubrey Reep led the inning off with the first double. She scored off of Alexa Sells hit to right center in the next at-bat. Sells scored the final run of the contest on the third straight double with Emma Swenson picking up the RBI.
In the top of the fifth, Taylor Nilsson singled to right center field and later in the frame, stole second to get in scoring position. However, the Bulldogs were able to quell the Lions' push, earning two straight outs to close out the inning.
Reep earned her 10th of the season with a complete game shutout that saw her record eight strikeouts. Casey Stanek suffered the loss, giving up two runs on four hits in six innings pitched, striking out five.
GAME TWO: WU 12, MHU 0
Wingate exploded to an early 5-0 lead after the first inning of play. Aubrey Reep opened the scoring with a two-run double to right center field. Later in the inning, with two runners on, Sammi Jo Ioney ripped a three-run home run over the left field fence.
The scoring continued in the second when the Bulldogs tacked on six additional runs. Reep collected her fifth RBI of the game with a three-run home run. After Emma Swenson's RBI double scored Alexa Sells, the Bulldogs extended their lead to 11-0 off of a Taylor Wells two-run home run.
Mars Hill threatened in the top of the fourth with runners on first and second with one out, but Rachel Weidner was able to collect the final two outs of the frame with a strikeout and groundout. In the bottom of the fourth, Sam Hogan added to the lead with a solo home run.
Reep led all players with five RBI in the contest, going 2-for-3 in the contest. Ioney added three RBI on the day.
Weidner struck out eight in five innings for the win, allowing five hits. Ashley Collins was credited with the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in 0.1 innings pitched.
The Lions take on North Greenville on Monday, March 25th in non-conference play. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
