
Lions sweep Coker on road in SAC clash
The Mars Hill volleyball team (7-6, 6-4 SAC) swept Coker (4-9, 1-8 SAC) on the road Saturday afternoon.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (7-6, 6-4 SAC) swept Coker (4-9, 1-8 SAC) on the road Saturday afternoon.
Mars Hill opened the contest on a 5-1 run with Lauren Phillips recording three kills in that span. During the first set, the Lions only allowed Coker to score consecutive points just once as they cruised to a 25-14 set win.
The Lions led 16-11 midway through the second before Coker strung together a 4-0 run to come within one as Taylor du Bray and Sierra Harvey each recorded two kills apiece. The Lions bounced back to take six of the next seven points to regain their five-point advantage. The Lions closed out the second on a 3-0 run with two kills from Phillips and a Coker attack error.
Leading 5-4 early in the third set, the Lions went on an 8-0 run to bolster their lead take a 12-4 advantage. The Lions maintained the lead throughout the set and ended the game by recording their last five points on kills, two from the hands of Grace Lilly.
Phillips ended the contest with a double-double, recording a team-high 13 kills and adding 16 digs. She hit .480 on the contest to lead all players. Sally Anne Johnson added nine kills and three blocks while Ully Martins led all players with 21 digs. Jordan Schmucker collected a team-high 19 assists.
Mars Hill returns to action on Friday, October 11 when they begin day one of the PBC/SAC Crossover tournament. They face Lander at 11 a.m. and close out the day at 6 p.m. versus Augusta.
