Keslar homers twice versus Young Harris in non-conference action
The Mars Hill baseball team (16-23) fell to Young Harris (25-13) by a score of 11-8 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Henderson Field.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (16-23) fell to Young Harris (25-13) by a score of 11-8 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Henderson Field.
The Mountain Lions used an eight-run sixth inning to push past Mars Hill and pick up their 25th win of the year. Trailing 4-3 and with two runners on, Young Harris took their second and final lead of the contest off of Corley Reynolds' two-run triple. Reynolds later scored off of T.J. Byrd's RBI single.
After tacking on another run, Zavier Lushington's two-run triple extended the Mountain Lions' lead to five. Scoring their 10th run off of a wild pitch, Young Harris capped off the inning with Cole Jackson's RBI single up the middle.
Harrison Keslar, in a pinch hitting role, hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Mountain Lions' lead down to six. Keslar struck once again in the bottom of the ninth with a three-run home run to pull Mars Hill within three.
Mars Hill took a 1-0 lead after one off of a RBI double from Austin Purser that plated Paul Martin. Young Harris tied the game in the top of the second off of Tristin Smith's RBI single and took the lead in the top of the fourth as Reynolds drove in two with a single to right center field.
Purser drove in his second run of the game in the bottom of the fifth and later in the frame, with the bases loaded, Austin Treadway regained the lead for Mars Hill with a two-run single that plated Purser and Scottie Lee.
Reynolds had a team-high four RBI for Young Harris while Greer led all players with four hits. Both Purser and Jordan Lathe led the Lions with three hits while Keslar paced the Mars Hill offense with four RBI.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, April 13th when they host Winston-Salem State in non-conference play. First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m.
