Coker Splits Double-header with Newberry

Hartsville, SC - The Coker University Softball Team split their Wednesday (April 12) double-header with Newberry. 

Game One:

Newberry was the first to go up, scoring their first run in the top of the second inning. Coker and Newberry continued to play head to head throughout the game, the Cobras registering their first run in the bottom of the fifth inning and tied the score at an even 1-1. Even with runners on base and batters hitting well, neither team was able to bring in the winning run until Kelsi Scott lined a ball over the shortstop's head. This dime-piece hit claimed the Cobras a walk off win and finished the game on a high note. 

Out of the 23 batters, there were two runs scored and three hits collected. Chloe Pelham hit the only double for the Cobras while Kelsi Scott and Ariana Fair both had an RBI for the day. 

Jenae picked up the win for Coker and faced 30 batters alone. Fedewa pitched 67 strikes out of 103 pitches for the day. 

 Game Two:

Starting off the second game unlike the first, Newberry scored early on in the first and second inning. Despite getting batters on base and continuing to fight, Coker was unable to bring any runners home as Newberry posted another three runs. 

Out of the 25 at bats, Coker registered four hits/ Kesli Scott and Ariana Fair both picked up a stolen base throughout the game.

Tibby Hessian, Cecilia Hogel, and Hannah Fisher all picthed during the day. All three faced a total of 37 batters and claimed a total of one strike-out. 

The Cobras will be returning to the field on Saturday (April 15) against Anderson. The first pitch is set to be thrown at 2 PM in Hartsville, SC. Live streaming and stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com
