Maxwell Tosses No-Hitter; Trojans Sweep Frostburg State

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University softball (9-1) won its ninth game in a row defeating Frostburg State (0-2) in game one, 8-0 (5), highlighted by AU's Laken Maxwell's no-hitter and game two, 8-2, on Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

"We played today like the game is supposed to be played, said head coach Tommy Hewitt. "Good defense, strong pitching and lots of run support."

"Hopefully today was a preview of things to come tomorrow against a good Augusta State Team," added Hewitt.

On the day, the Trojans score 16 runs, using 13 hits with eight being for extra bases.

Senior Kayson Boatner went 5-for-6 with three home runs, a double and a single. Boatner knocked in eight of the 16 runs scored today. Senior Sydney Belcher batted 1-for-2 with a home run, senior Jessica Neadow drilled a solo shot to center, freshman Maddie Carpenter picked up two hits, including a double and two RBI.

AU's Maxwell (5-0) pitched a complete 5 inning no-hitter, striking out 11 batters. Maxwell leads the conference with 46 strikeouts on the season.

Senior Harlie Duncan (4-1) picked up her fourth win of the season, giving up six hits and striking out five.

Anderson returns to action on Sunday against nonconference opponent Augusta First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm.
