
Lions return to action versus Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (11-16, 2-12 SAC) was swept Wednesday afternoon versus Limestone (17-17, 9-11 SAC) by scores of 8-0 and 10-2, respectively.
GAME ONE: LU 8, MHU 0 (5 Innings)
The Saints shutout Mars Hill in game one, 8-0, highlighted by a four-run fourth inning.
Up 2-0 after Madison Chappell's two-run single in the bottom of the third, the Saints plated four in the next frame, highlighted by Katie Wilbur's two-run home run that plated Ashley Parnell.
Parnell, who earlier in the fourth drove in the Saints' fourth run, plated two more in the bottom of the fifth to give Limestone the eight-run advantage. She led all players with three hits and three RBI in the game. Wilbur and Chappell each recorded two RBI off of one hit.
The Lions recorded two hits in the game off the bats of Brookelynn Nanney and Maggie Langheim.
Haley White picked up her 11th win of the season, allowing two hits in 4.1 innings pitched.
GAME TWO: LU 10, MHU 2 (6 Innings)
Off of a four-run first inning, the Saints completed the Wednesday sweep, downing the Lions 10-2.
Leading 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Chloe Thomas' two-run double bumped the lead to four before the end of the frame.
Kenley Powell's RBI single in the top of the second broke the shutout bid as it plated Brookelynn Nanney.
The Saints added a run apiece in the second and fourth stanzas, going up 6-2 after four. Nanney put a dent in their lead with a fielder's choice that allowed Ashley Hamlin to score the Lions' second run of the day.
Limestone plated three in the fifth, highlighted by Ashley Parnell's two-run single up the middle. Natalie Ruth added a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to go up by eight.
Parnell, Katie Wilbur, and Madison Chappell each recorded two hits to lead the Saints while Parnell and Thomas led all players with two RBI apiece. Hamlin recorded a team-high two hits for Mars Hill.
Haley White earned her second win on the day and 12th overall, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out eight.
