JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Coker University volleyball team lost in South Atlantic Conference action at Carson-Newman on Friday night (Oct. 18) by a score of 3-0. 

Carson-Newman took the opening set in decisive fashion by a score of 25-7 to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Eagles jumped out to a 5-2 lead, before Coker would come back to tie the match at 6-6. Carson-Newman would win five in a row to go up 11-6, before Coker would win its final point of the set to get back within four. Carson-Newman would go on a streak to finish off the opening set. 

The two teams would require one bonus point in the second set, with Carson-Newman winning the set 26-24. The Cobras got out to an early 5-3 lead in the set, before Carson-Newman would win the next eight points to go up 11-5. Coker would get back within four and stay within four for the next several points, before a 9-5 Coker run left the set tied at 16-16. The Eagles would counter by winning four of the next six points for a 20-18 lead, before the teams would go back and forth only to end up deadlocked at 22-22. After the teams continued on to a 24-24 tie, Carson-Newman would take the final two points to polish off the second set. 

 Carson-Newman would take the third set 25-13 to seal the match. Carson-Newman held an early 7-6 lead in the set, before going on a 4-1 run to extend their lead to 11-7. The Eagles would rattle off six straight points to go up by 10, before winning eight of the final 14 points to finish off the third set. 

 Coker hit -.094 in the match, totaling 17 kills. The Cobras were held to a negative hitting percentage for only the second time this season. Emily Everton posted a team-high seven kills in the match, while Chelsey Blume, Olivia Cerick and Taylor du Bray each posted two kills on the night. Alexis Kopicki, Rami Mullen, Sierra Harvey and Payton Jackson also each recorded one kill in the match. Mullen and Ashley Carson each registered seven assists on the night, while Everton and Harvey each also had one assist on the night. Gabrielle Milo led the team with 10 digs on the night, while Cerick and Everton each posted seven digs in the match. Carson recorded four digs in the match, while Mullen and du Bray each had three. Coker also received contributions in the dig column from Kopicki, Harvey and Maddie Gardner with one each. Blume had the lone solo block on the night for Coker, while Harvey led the team with two block assists. Blume, Cerick, Everton and Carson Fuller also had block assists in the match.  

The Cobras are back in action tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 19) when they travel to Lincoln Memorial for another South Atlantic Conference contest. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
