#25 UNC Pembroke edges #19 Baseball in extras in showdown at Atrium Health Ballpark  

 

Kannapolis, N.C. —- The 19th-ranked Catawba College baseball team fell just short in an 11-inning showdown between two top-25 teams in the country at Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis on Tuesday night, falling against #25 UNC Pembroke.

 

TEAM STATISTICS

- UNC Pembroke out-hit Catawba 12-7

- The Braves recorded all seven extra-base hits

- The Catawba Indians committed both errors in the contest

- Catawba had three of four stolen bases on the night

- UNC Pembroke's pitchers allowed three earned runs on seven hits and 11 walks, striking out 10; Catawba's staff allowed five earned runs on 12 hits and six walks, striking out 11

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Hayden Simmerson and Mason Gwyn combined to hold UNC Pembroke scoreless over the opening six innings

- Levi Perrell was 3-for-6 with two stolen bases and a run driven in

- Drew Robertson and Logan Rogers both had base hits and an RBI

- Dylan Driver singled and walked three times

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FOURTH INNING

- Robertson's single and Rogers' walk opened up the bottom half of the fourth

- A bunt allowed Robertson to score on Ty Hubbard's RBI groundout

- Perrell sent a base hit the opposite way to double the lead

 

SIXTH INNING

- Catawba added to the lead when Sam Hunter drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-0 Catawba

 

SEVENTH INNING

- The Braves' Michael Dolberry hit a two-out triple to center in the seventh before scoring on a base hit

 

EIGHTH INNING

- Two doubles and a single allowed two runs to score for UNCP to tie the game at 3

 

ELEVENTH INNING

- Dolberry and Kody O'Connor provided solo homers in the top of the eleventh and the Braves left the bases loaded in the bottom half to earn the region victory

 

UP NEXT

- Catawba returns to South Atlantic Conference play this weekend, traveling to Hartsville, S.C. to take on third-place Coker for a three-game set; game on Friday is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch
