GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (17-20, 5-13 SAC) was swept by Limestone (23-17, 12-8 SAC) by scores of 5-4 and 8-0 Wednesday afternoon.
GAME ONE: LU 5, MHU 4
Limestone scored five unanswered runs to escape game one with the 5-4 victory.
Tied at four entering the bottom of the sixth, Carley Womack's RBI double to left center plated the game-winning run as Tayler Jenkins crossed home plate.
After three scoreless innings, Alyssa Poston put the Lions up by four with one swing, blasting a grand slam over the right center field fence.
In the bottom of the fifth, Limestone tied the game at four. After a wild pitch allowed the Saints to break the shutout bid, Katie Wilbur plated Abigail Price with a double to right center. Santana Anderson's two-run home run knotted the game up later in the inning.
Price led all players with three hits in the game. Poston led all players with four RBI while Ella Brooks and Farley Park led the Lions with two hits apiece.
GAME TWO: LU 8, MHU 0 (5 Innings)
The Saints scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the sweep.
Limestone's offense came alive in the bottom of the fifth with four players recording RBI singles in the frame, highlighted by Abigail Price's two-run single late in the scoring run.
Price, along with three other Saints, recorded two hits apiece with she and Katie Wilbur leading the team with two RBI aside.
Katie Todd, Jessica Senn, Farley Park, and Abby Gatch recorded all four Mars Hill hits.
The Lions take on Wingate on Saturday, April 15 in their final road series of the year. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
