Coker Hosts Anderson for Conference Series

Hartsville, SC - The Coker University Baseball team dropped their match-up against Anderson on Friday night by a nail-biting score of 10-9. 

The Cobras started off hot against the Trojans, putting up a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Ashby Vining, Donavan Frayer, and Landon Reeves all crossed home plate as Coker put their offense into action. Anderson quickly answered back with two runs of their own, Justin Fox and Carlos Hernandez bringing the lead within one run. Bats stayed hot as Caleb McCants, Nick Leonard, Cameron Ferrell, and Eli Hopkins brought in another four runs. This extended the Cobras lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the fifth. Unfortunately, Anderson was able to rattle off six consecutive runs in the top of the eight inning, putting the Cobras down by two. Although in a deficit of two runs, Coker fought their way back to a tie of 9-9; scored by Wes Turley and Jacob Yarberry. A knock down, drag out fight between both teams finally came to a head in the top of the ninth inning as Anderson's Justin Fox crossed home plate and closed the score at 9-10.

Of the 38 at bats, Coker had 11 hits throughout the night. Eli Hopkins and Ashby Vining both collected a double during the game. Cameron Ferrell (2), Eli hopkins (2), Nick Leonard, and Ashby Vining all registered an RBI, while Adam Wilkerson had the only SAC fly. 

Cody Chapman, facing 31 batters, threw for a total of 5.2 innings and 55 strikes. Ethan Graham and Cooper Thomas also made an appear during the game to face a collective total of 19 batters. 

The Cobras will be returning to the mound on Saturday, March 10th, to finish their series against Anderson. The first pitch will be thrown at 1:00 PM. Live streaming and live stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com
