No. 8 Limestone Earns Non-Conference Win Over Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C.  – The nationally eighth-ranked Limestone College women's lacrosse team defeated non-conference opponent Lenoir-Rhyne University, 15-6, on Saturday evening at Moretz Stadium.

  • Junior midfielder Courtney Lafler (Penn Yan, N.Y.) paced the Saints with five goals.
  • Junior attack Caitlyn Nemeth (Old Bridge, N.J.) tallied a hat trick.
  • Senior attack Kendra Sheppard (Toronto, Ontario) added two goals.
  • Senior midfielder Anna O'Donnell (Easton, Md.), senior attacks Shannon Sisk (Brooklin, Ontario) and Kirsten Terry (Tega Cay, S.C.), junior midfielder Taylor Blick (Barclay, Md.) and freshman attack Britannie Ouimet (Westlock, Alberta) recorded one goal each.
  • Sisk notched a team-high six assists.          
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Haring (Irving, N.Y.) recorded six saves and the win.         
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
First Half
After a series of back and forth action, the Saints got the offensive momentum rolling as Limestone put the first four goals on the scoreboard to go out ahead, 4-0. The Bears retaliated with two goals of their own to cut the Limestone advantage in half, 4-2, at the 13:08 minute mark. The Blue and Gold controlled the remainder of the period as the Saints added another four goals to take an 8-2 lead at the break.  
 
Second Half
Limestone continued the scoring rally out of the break by finding the back of the net twice to build a 10-2 edge with 25:35 left in regulation. The Bears snuck a quick ball past the keeper but the Saints worked to initiate the running clock at the 17:33 minute mark, 13-3. Lenoir-Rhyne worked to stop the clock by outscoring the Saints 3-2 but the rally came up short as Limestone held onto a 15-6 advantage to win the non-conference road game.
 
NOTABLES
  • Limestone outshot the Bears 35-14.
  • Junior defender Alyssa Voccia (Greenacres, Fla.) is four ground balls away from recording her 100th-career ground ball.
  • The Saints hold a 6-0 all-time advantage over the Bears.

The Saints will have to wait until tomorrow (May 6) to see if they will be selected to participate in the NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Tournament. The selection show will be aired at 8:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
