
EMORY, Va. – The No. 19 nationally-ranked Wingate University Women's Lacrosse Team (10-1, 5-0 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry University (3-6, 0-5 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs scored 14 first-period goals as they earned the win by a 23-2 final score.

How It Happened
- The visitors scored early and often in the first period as they tallied 14 goals in the first period and four more in the second on their way to a 18-0 halftime lead.
- The Wasps opened the scoring in the second half when junior midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) converted on a free-position shot at the 11:49 mark to get E&H on the board. The Bulldogs would record the next five goals to push their advantage out to 23-1, but the Wasps had the last score of the game. Jones capitalized on another free-position opportunity with 2:16 to play to run the score to its final at 23-2.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Jones finished with two goals, four ground balls, two draw controls and caused two turnovers to lead the Wasps. Sophomore midfielder Natalie Harris (Hillsville, Va.) added three ground balls while freshman midfielder Whitney Holland (Rocky Mount, Va.) had three ground balls and a caused turnover. Sophomore defender Reagan Koom (Omaha, Neb.) registered a team-high four ground balls and caused a turnover of her own.
- Freshman goalie Nicole Byrd (Virginia Beach, Va.) made eight saves in net for Emory & Henry.
Wingate Individual Leaders
- Megan Millard led the Bulldogs with six goals, two assists, four ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover. Jamie Weber posted five goals, two assists, one ground ball and one caused turnover. Evelynn Buckmaster and Emily Blakely each registered three goals for Wingate.
- Riley Boone and McKayla Elison split time in goal for WU in the win.
