
Mars Hill claws way to five-set win over Limestone

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (9-0, 5-0 SAC) rallied to defeat Limestone (4-3, 1-3 SAC) in five sets (25-14, 25-16, 21-25, 20-25, 15-5) Saturday evening inside Chambers Gymnasium.
Mars Hill, after dropping sets three and four, came out firing in set five, hitting a game-high .500 with eight kills on 16 swings. The Lions opened the set on an 8-3 run and closed out on a 7-2 stretch that saw back-to-back-to-back blocks with two apiece from Nikkayla Stewart and Timmons Yates.
The Lions dominated the first set, hitting .341 to Limestone's .091, knocking down 15 kills on 41 attempts with just one error. The second set saw the Lions hold the Saints to a -.079 hitting percentage, cruising to a 25-16 set win.
Limestone battled throughout the third and fourth, holding the Lions' hitting percentage to below .100 in both frames. In the fourth, the Saints led by as many as 10 (23-13), but Mars Hill began their comeback bid, going on a 7-0 run that saw three kills land for Sarah Goddard.
Mallie Chretien led the Saints with 14 kills followed by eight from Mia McMillen. Malina Harris posted 23 assists while Gabby Wessels notched 28 digs.
Goddard led the Lions with 16 kills followed by Jada Cannon's 15 on the night. Jordan Schmucker posted a double-double with 47 assists and 28 digs. Laela Jimenez led all players with 33 digs and added seven assists. Stewart ended the match with three solo blocks and four block assists.
Mars Hill concludes their three-match homestand on Tuesday, September 20 when they face Lincoln Memorial. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
