
Coker Downs Wingate In Double Overtime Thriller
Ian Blue explodes for career high 34 points to help Coker past Wingate in home opener
Hartsville, SC. - Coker outscored Wingate 19-13 in double overtime to take downt the Bulldogs in their home opener. The Cobras were paced by Ian Blue, Max Hurray, and Logan Murray.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Wednesday nights game was full of back and forth action. In a game that saw 10 lead changes, and 17 ties throughout, it was Coker who outlasted Wingate in the SAC opener.
Through the first 20 minutes Coker trailed 53-51, with Ian Blue leading the way, registering his 14 points. Five Cobras bolstered multiple assists at the break, while nine players scored atlesast once.
In the second half, the Cobras jumped out to an early 68-61 lead. The two teams from their continued to trade one basket after another.
With four minutes remaining, Coker held a 99-94 lead, but it was Wingate who roared back to tie the game with 15 seconds remaining. The Cobras had a shot at the end of regulation, but the atempt fell short as the horn sounded.
Kendal Taylor took the game into his own hands down the stretch for Wingate, scoring or assisting on 8 of Wingates 11 overtime points. As time expired in overtime, the Cobras sent two defenders at him as he rose for the win, missing a three pointer at the buzzer.
The second overtime, the Cobras took over. Coker, who has now played overtime in two of their three games this season, outscored Wingate 19-13 in the extra frame.
Logan Murray burried a three to give Coker an early 117-116 lead, and Coker never gave it back. Jamie Muldowney was massive in the second overtime frame for Coker, drilling two clutch three pointers. The first came with a little under two minutes remaining.
With 58 seconds remaining, Murray caught the ball on the rigth wing, driving left, and dropped a perfect pass to Ian Blue on the block to give Coker a five point lead.
After Taylor cut that lead to three, Muldowney received a kick out pass, took multiple retreat dribbles back towards half court after drawing a double team which caused both Bulldogs to fall down. From there, Muldowney did what he has done all season long. He took a short pause and rose up from about seven feet behind the arc, drilling the shot, nothing but net. The dagger the Cobras had been looking for was delivered.
From there, Coker made free throws down the stretch to close the game out, taking down Wingate 133-127 in their first SAC game of the season.
