Hancock Scores Twice, No. 20 Limestone Pitches Third Straight Shutout

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Sophomore midfielder Jacob Hancock (Manchester, England) scored the game-winner less than 90 seconds into the match and then added an insurance goal later in the second half while the nationally 20th-ranked Limestone University men's soccer team pitched a third consecutive shutout with a 2-0 Homecoming decision against Wingate University on Saturday, September 25 at Saints Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
First Half
 
Limestone needed less than 90 seconds into the match to find the back of the net as Hancock planted his second goal of the year. Cabranes accepted a pass from de Laaf on the left side before sending in a ball that was headed by Fabricio. Hancock was there to clean things up with a solid blast inside the near post.
 
The Saints kept up the pressure in the early going as a header shot from Ferreira was high in the sixth minute before Hancock and Fabricio both had a shot blocked in the 12th minute. The Bulldogs had a couple of attempts late in the half, but none were on goal as Limestone carried a 1-0 lead into the break.
 
Second Half
 
Mueller put a shot on goal in the 55th minute, but his header was hauled in, before Wingate attempted to find the equalizer a few ticks later. Hipper was there for the stop, however, before a breakaway by the in the 61st minute would stake the Blue and Gold to a 2-0 advantage on Hancock's second goal of the night.
 
After Fabricio got through a pair of defenders at midfield, he passed the ball up to Hancock streaking down the left wing. The sophomore then worked his way into the box before flicking the ball off a defender into the opposite corner to put the Saints ahead by two. Wingate's missed an opportunity in the 72nd minute with a ball off the post before Hipper made a save in the 90th minute to preserve the clean sheet.
 
TURNING POINT
 
Limestone took control early with the go-ahead score just 76 seconds into the contest and would not look back. The Saints added an insurance goal in the second half and the defense handled it from there.
