CARROLLTON, Ga. – The No. 17 nationally-ranked University of West Georgia Baseball Team (19-4) won both games of a doubleheader over Emory & Henry College (8-18) on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves won a pitcher's duel in game one by a 3-2 score before slugging their way to a 9-1 win in the nightcap.

Game One – No. 17 West Georgia 3, Emory & Henry 2
The Wasps took an early lead in the top of the first inning when junior third baseman Jared Foley (Sparta, N.C.) singled and came around to score on an RBI base knock from junior designated hitter Cole Cunningham (Wake Forest, N.C.) to make it 1-0.
Emory & Henry added another in the visiting half of the fourth. Fifth-year first baseman Matthew Long (Willow Spring, N.C.) and senior outfielder Jermie Greene, Jr. (Troutman, N.C.) strung together back-to-back singles to lead off the inning and fifth-year shortstop Mason Lyda (Mills River, N.C.) brought Long home with an RBI hit to double the E&H lead to 2–0. The Wolves would get one run back in the bottom of the fourth as Anthony Calabro drilled his tenth home run of the season to reduce the deficit to 2-1. West Georgia then tied things up in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly from Henry Daniels to even the score at 2-2.
West Georgia jumped ahead on a solo shot from Jared Emory in the bottom of the seventh inning and held on the rest of the way for the 3-2 victory. Peyton Berry earned the win on the mound for the Wolves as he went 7.1 innings while giving up 10 hits and two runs with four strikeouts. Junior pitcher Jack Swarbrick (Haverhill, Mass.) was saddled with the tough loss for the Wasps as he went seven strong innings, scattering three runs on six hits while fanning four Wolves batters. Every player in the starting lineup for the Wasps recorded at least one hit in the losing effort.
Game Two – No. 17 West Georgia 9, Emory & Henry 1 (seven innings)
The Wolves were first on the scoreboard in game two, as they pushed across three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Henry Daniels capped off the inning with a two-run double to put West Georgia up 3-0. UWG added three more in the fourth, two of which came on a two-run home run for Jared Emory, as they pushed their lead to 6-0.
West Georgia added two in the fifth on a pair of sacrifice flies to make it an 8-0 game. The Wasps got on the board in the top of the sixth after junior outfielder Wayne Mize (Salisbury, N.C.) led off with a double and scored on an RBI single from junior first baseman McCray Sawyers (Stuart, Va.) that cut the deficit to 8-1. The Wolves responded with another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead back out to the final score of 9-1.
Bay Witcher received the win on the bump for the Wolves as he went the distance, allowing only one run on seven hits while striking out a batter and only issuing one free pass. Junior right-handed pitcher Andrew Parr (Opelika, Ala.) took the loss for the Wasps, allowing five runs on six hits and one base on balls. Sawyers led the Wasps' offense with a pair of hits and the one run driven in while Foley extended his hit streak to 10 games.
