WOMEN'S TENNIS DROPS FIRST MATCH OF THE YEAR TO THE PATRIOTS
Florence, SC - In heartbreaking fashion, the Cobras drop their first match of the year, losing in a decisive 4-3 contest to the Patriots of Francis Marion.
By The Numbers:
Final Score: FMU 4, Coker 3
Records: Coker 2-1 (0-0 SAC), FMU 1-2, (0-0 Conference Carolinas)
Location: Florence, SC
Top Performers
Jade Bellegy: 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 win at first singles
Tamara Macias: 6-1, 6-2 win at fifth singles
Caroline Myers: 6-3, 6-4 win at sixth singles
How It Happened:
It was a heartbreaking loss in the doubles point, with the first doubles pair dropping a 6-4 decision to give the point to FMU. Picking up a win in doubles play was Tamara Macias and Ilona Hernandez-Sanchez, fighting in a tiebreak to pull off the 7-6 (5) victory at second doubles.
After dropping the doubles point, the Cobras needed wins at four of the six singles spots to come back with a cross-town rivalry victory. The Cobras were able to pick up three of the four wins, winning at the one (Bellegy), five (Macias), and six (Myers) spots. That fourth singles win was so close they could taste it as the Cobras dropped a three-setter at fourth singles that proved to be the deciding matchup.
Notables
- Both Bellegy and Myers remain undefeated in singles with a perfect 3-0 record. With Bellegy at the one spot and Myers at the six spot, you have great stability at both ends of the lineup.
