
Cuk knocks down 26 in five-set thriller versus LMU

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball (3-2, 3-2 SAC) was downed in five sets versus Lincoln Memorial (2-3, 2-3 SAC) Friday night inside Chambers Gymnasium.
After going down 2-0, the Lions took set three by a score of 25-20, hitting a game-high .304. Jana Cuk had seven kills on 10 attempts, hitting .700 in the frame. Sarah Goddard added four kills. Sara Pasour and Jordan Schmucker each compiled eight assists.
The Lions knotted the game at two in the fourth, with Cuk leading the way with nine kills. Goddard matched her third set output while Pasour led the team with nine assists.
The fifth set was a back-and-forth affair that saw LMU, trailing 8-5, going on an 8-2 run to lead 13-10 late. Four straight points from Mars Hill provided them with match point. The Railsplitters, off of kill from Sierrah Lemons, reeled off three straight points, including back-to-back kills from Haley Brown to secure the win.
The Railsplitters trailed late in the first set, but reeled off six straight points to close out the first, 26-24, to take an early 1-0 lead in the contest. Yileen Ng He led a balanced LMU attach with four kills while the trio of Lemons, Brown, and Gabriela Abreu each added three. Kelly Jakaitis led the Lions with five kills in the frame, hitting .500.
Brown led the Railsplitters with another five kills in the second, once again forcing extra points to go up 2-0. The Railsplitters hit a game-high .289 in the frame. Lauren Phillips led Mars Hill with five kills followed by Goddard's four.
Brown led the Railsplitters with 22 kills while Abreu picked up a double-double with 15 kills and 17 digs. Emily Walter led all players with 61 assists.
Cuk led all players with 26 kills, hitting .442. Goddard ended the night with 14 kills and 15 digs for the double-double. Grace Lilly added 10 kills and 26 digs for the double-double. Pasour recorded 35 assists while while Ully Martins led all players with 34 digs.
Prior to the start of the contest, seniors Eriana Ansley, Sara Pasour, and Ully Martins were recognized and celebrated for their contributions to the volleyball program.
The Lions return to the court on Saturday, March 20 versus Carson-Newman at home. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
