WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (1-0) defeated Winston-Salem State (0-1) in three sets (25-15, 25-13, 25-17) Sunday afternoon in their season opener.
The Lions capitalized on Winston-Salem's attack woes as the Rams racked up 24 errors on the day, including a game-high 11 in the second set that saw the team end the frame with a -.200 hitting percentage. Mars Hill hit .131 on the day, including a game-high .167 in the third set.
Mars Hill's service game proved pivotal as the team dropped 11 aces. Sarah Goddard, Laela Jimenez, Jordan Schmucker, and Allison Raines each recorded two apiece, while Kaitlyn Johnson, Jana Cuk, and Grace Lilly each added one.
Cuk led the Lions with six kills in the game, hitting .400 while Lilly led the team with eight digs.
