Late Lions' push falls short against Wolves
Five Lions score in double-digits in tough home loss.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (4-3, 2-3 SAC) was defeated by Newberry (4-4, 1-2 SAC) by a score of 98-91 Wednesday night inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The Wolves shot over 54 percent from the floor with Drew Robinson's 12 points leading the way. Robinson went 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Drake Downs added 10 points and six rebounds in the half, going 5-of-6 from the floor.
Kory Davis led the Lions with nine points and three steals. Dinari Boykin led the Lions with four rebounds in the half, chipping in four points off the bench. Marvin Hires netted six points and picked up two steals, two rebounds, and two assists.
The Lions trailed 45-32 after the first half, but outscored Newberry 59-53 in the final 20 minutes of play. Mars Hill pulled the contest to as close six points, but clutch shots by the Wolves held the Lions at bay down the stretch.
Robinson added another 15 points in the half while the trio of Downs, James Lovorn, and Devario Sheppard each netted nine points apiece.
Mars Hill shot 53 percent from the floor, hitting 6-of-11 three pointers. Boykin led the Lions with 12 points in the half followed by 11 apiece from Davis and Blair Crutcher. Kadyn Dawkins added 10 points in the half.
Robinson led all players with 27 points, hitting seven threes on the night. Downs added 19 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double.
Davis led the Lions with 20 points and three steals. Boykin ended the night with 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds while Dawkins added 15 points in the contest.
Mars Hill returns to the court on Saturday, December 7 when they face Coker on the road. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
