Baseball Sweeps Mars Hill in Monday Doubleheader Action

Coker would strike in the first, scoring off Drew Klaserner's RBI sacrifice fly to left to score Cam Murray who reached earlier from a single through the left side to put Coker up 1-0.  

 

The Cobra bats would heat up in the fifth, when they plated six runs to increase their lead over the Lions.

 

The first run of the fifth would come from a Kristofer Blanco RBI double to left center, scoring Kody Hanna

 

Blanco would score from a Mars Hill throwing error, allowing Murray to reach and advance to second (3-0). Klaserner's RBI fielder's choice would score Murray to make it 4-0. 

 

Reilly Hall would triple to right (two RBI) and score on a Mars Hill throwing error, while plating Cory Listing and Klaserner to put Coker up 7-0 over the Lions. 

 

Mars Hill would plate two runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut into the Coker lead. 

 

The Lions would homer in the sixth and seventh before their comeback could fall short. Coker would win game one 7-4. 

 

Tanner Wofford would get the win for the Cobras, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings, while recording six strikeouts over 5.0 innings of work. Griffin Hollifield picked up the save, his third of the season, striking out two over 1.1 innings of work. 



Game Two

 

Game two would remain scoreless for both teams until the fifth, when Coker would score three runs to take the lead. 

 

First, when Phil Griffor would send an RBI double to center, bringing home Blanco. Griffor would score when Klaserner would hit a RBI double to right center, also scoring on the play from a Mars Hill throwing error. 

 

The Lions would plate a run in the fifth and sixth to cut the Coker lead to 3-2. 

 

Coker would take another commanding lead in the seventh, putting up three runs. First, Klaserner's RBI single to right center scored Griffor who reached by way of a Mars Hill error to make it 4-2. Hall's RBI single to right would bring home Klaserner (5-2). Listing, who reached on a walk, would score on a Mars Hill passed ball for the final Cobra run of the day. 

 

Mars Hill would try to make a comeback by scoring two in the ninth to make the final game score 6-4. 

 

Aaron Mitchell picked up the win for the Cobras, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings and striking out four over 5.0 innings of work. Reid Watkins earned the save for Coker.
