
Late Lions' comeback bid falls short versus UVA Wise

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (6-6, 2-5 SAC) was defeated by UVA Wise (4-7, 1-4 SAC) by a score of 18-14 Tuesday evening.
The Lions trailed 18-8 with 7:23 remaining in the third quarter before going on a 3-0 run to close out the third, getting goals from Sydney Joyce, Alexa Tazzetta, and Haley Stallings. Maria Fabrizio recorded two assists in the frame.
Mars Hill continued their momentum, scoring another three goals and holding UVA Wise scoreless in the final 15 minutes of play. Despite outshooting the Cavaliers 10-6 in the final frame, the Lions' comeback bid fell short.
Kiersten Foust scored her first of five goals in just 18 seconds to open the game. UVA Wise responded with four straight with two goals apiece from Katie Allen and Abby Stoffelen. The Cavaliers would go on to score four more in the first, heading into the second quarter up 8-3.
Both teams combined for 11 goals once more in the second quarter with the Cavaliers getting the 6-5 edge. Joyce led the Lions with two goals in the frame while they also received goals from Stallings, Foust, and Tazzetta.
Allen (5g) and Grace Golatt (3g, 2a) led the Cavaliers with five points apiece while Foust (5g) led the Lions with five of her own. Both Joyce and Tazzetta recorded hat-tricks.
Jordan Edwards made 11 saves in the win while Virginia Joy stopped five shots in the loss.
Mars Hill takes to the road on Saturday, April 9 when they face Catawba. First draw control is set for 1 p.m.
