
Mars Hill takes down Tusculum in four to complete season sweep
The Mars Hill volleyball team (11-10, 8-6 SAC) downed Tusculum (10-10, 7-7 SAC) in four sets Friday evening to complete the season sweep over the Pioneers.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (11-10, 8-6 SAC) downed Tusculum (10-10, 7-7 SAC) in four sets Friday evening to complete the season sweep over the Pioneers.
After dropping the first set to Tusculum by a score of 25-20, the Lions won three straight to emerge victorious. Tusculum knocked down 15 kills in the first set and hit .265 as a team to enter the second up 1-0.
In a tightly contest second frame, the Lions were able to hold off Tusculum to go tie the game at one set apiece. Following a dominant third set that saw Kamya Latson and Sarah Goddard pace the Lions' offense, Mars Hill was able to close out the match in the fourth by a score of 25-22. In the third set, the Lions' hit a game-high .286, dropping 14 kills on 35 attempts.
The trio of Taylor Blythe, Gabby Gray, and Carli Pigza recorded 11 kills apiece for the Pioneers. Elise Carmichael had a game-high 31 assists while Gray collected a team-high 15 digs.
Goddard led the Lions with 16 kills and added 13 digs for the double-double. Latson his a game-high .588, recording 11 kills on 17 attempts. Jordan Schmucker led the Lions with 25 assists while Ully Martins led all players with 20 digs.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, October 26 versus UVa-Wise inside Chambers Gymnasium at 2 p.m. Prior to the contest, a Senior Day ceremony will take place.
