Pioneers swept 4-0 by 20th-ranked Wingate

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Wingate University defeated Tusculum University 4-0 in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The 20th-ranked Bulldogs (12-4, 8-1 SAC) won the doubles point and took the first three completed singles matches against the Pioneers (3-13, 2-8 SAC).

In doubles, Fernanda Castillo and Gigi Hinson beat Samira Butt and Katie Bradley 6-0 at flight three, and Suzuka Sambyakugari teamed with Claudia Vallejos for a 6-1 win at flight two over Valeria Diaz and Jimena Rivera.

In singles, Sambyakugari defeated Diaz 6-2, 6-2 at flight one, Mariia Bobrovska downed Bradley 6-1, 6-2 at flight six, and Vallejos earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over Rivera at flight four to end the match.

Tusculum was up in two of the three unfinished matches, as Elodie Baechler led 68th-ranked Chloe Kosmrlj 6-3, 4-3 at flight one and Ylva Frafjord Landa had a 7-5, 4-3 advantage over Castillo at flight two when the match ended.

The Pioneers will finish their home schedule on Tuesday, April 8 at 11 a.m. against Emory & Henry at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
