C-N battles to draw with Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – In a back and forth affair, Carson-Newman (1-1-1) and Young Harris ultimately played to a 3-3 draw Wednesday evening in Young Harris, Ga.

"Disappointed that we couldn't put one of our many chances away, but it was great to see us create so many," Carson-Newman head coach Simon Duffy said. "There were a lot of moments in the game we moved the ball really well and created in the final third. All in all, happy not to lose the game, but certainly frustrated not to come away with the win."

The Mountain Lions got the scoring started early in the match. Justice Taylor Colburn found Chloe Schmidhuber who fired a shot in the top left corner of goal to give Young Harris the 1-0 advantage in the 9th minute.

Carson-Newman had an answer just ten minutes later. Addie Henry (Chattanooga, Tenn.) sent an excellent ball to Abbie Zander (Baneberry, Tenn.) who made one touch and sent the ball into the top left corner of goal to level the match. Henry's assist was her second of the year and

Young Harris regained the lead with a goal in the 29th minute. It was the same combination that contributed to the first goal, Colburn to Schmidhuber to give the Mountain Lions the lead back at 2-1.

Once again, the Eagles managed to respond to tie the match. Zander found Maja Bengtsson (Malung, Sweden) who booted a shot into the lower left corner past the YH keeper to tie the match at 2. It was Bengtsson's fourth career goal and Zander's eighth career assist.

Just before the end of the opening half Carson-Newman struck for a third goal to take the lead. Felicia Frick (Eschen, Liechenstein) delivered a ball to Cameron Giles (Hendersonville, Tenn) who scored her first career goal in the 44th minute. Carson-Newman closed the first half by outshooting Young Harris 14-3 and 8-3 shots on goal.

Cassidy Campbell scored the equalizer in the 54th minute on a shot into the center of goal.

Carson-Newman had plenty of chances to retake the lead. C-N had shots in the 53rd and 55th minutes saved by McKenna Peaster. The Eagles sent four more shots on frame in the final 30 minutes but came up empty.

With Bengtsson, Giles and Zander scoring, C-N has had seven different players score in its first three games this season.

Six different Eagles recorded multiple shots in the match. Henry led the way with five shots, two on goal. C-N outshot Young Harris 24-9 and 15-5 on goal.

Danielle Lacy made two saves, and allowed three goals. Mckenna Peaster made ten saves for Young Harris.

C-N returns to the pitch on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. for its SAC opener against Anderson.
