The Mars Hill softball team (13-18, 5-11 SAC) was swept by Newberry (22-13, 8-6 SAC) by scores of 6-1 and 3-2 Wednesday afternoon on the road.

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (13-18, 5-11 SAC) was swept by Newberry (22-13, 8-6 SAC) by scores of 6-1 and 3-2 Wednesday afternoon on the road.
GAME ONE: NBY 6, MHU 1
Newberry hit three home runs en route to the 6-1 win.
Sierra Brogdon's two-run home run in the bottom of the first opened the scoring. It was her first home run of the afternoon. In the bottom of the second, Vanessa Wilson extended the Wolves' lead to three with a solo shot to left field.
In the top of the third, Mars Hill broke the shutout bid with Farley Park's RBI double to left field, plating Miranda Marks. Brogdon, in the bottom of the third, slammed her second home run of the day, a solo shot to left field.
The Wolves tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth off of Mady Brown's two-run double.
Brown led all players with three hits while adding two RBI. Brogdon led all players with three RBI, going 2-for-3 from the plate.
Katie Todd led the Lions with two hits followed by one apiece from Marks, Park, and Abby Gatch.
Lindsey Foster earned the win, striking out seven while allowing one run on five hits.
GAME TWO: NBY 3, MHU 2 (8 Innings)
Newberry survived game two with an extra innings' walkoff single.
Tied at two entering the bottom of the eighth, Mackenzie Turner's second RBI single clinched the Wednesday sweep.
The Wolves led 1-0 entering the third before Turner's RBI infield single doubled the lead.
Mars Hill, in the top of the seventh, tied the game with a two-run home run off the bat of Jessica Senn.
A trio of Wolves posted two hits in the contest while Turner led the team with two RBI. Maia Sholter led the Lions with two hits while Senn led the team with two RBI.
Olivia Chestnut was credited with the win, striking out 14 while allowing two runs on three hits.
Mars Hill returns to the diamond on Sunday, April 2 when they host Bluefield State in non-conference action. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
