Coker Drops First Conference Match-Up of 2022-23 Season

Jefferson City, TN - The Coker University Softball Team dropped their double header against Carson Newman on Wednesday (March 1st). 

Game One:

Coker jumped on top of the Eagles early in the first game, Cameron Jackson batted in by Chloe Pelham. Soon after, Carson Newman answered with three runs of their own; runs scored by Kennady Warder, Mary Vandergriff, and Abbi Martin. Once again, Coker was batting hot and scored another three runs in the top of the third and top of the fifth. This now brought the Cobras' lead to 4-3 against the Eagles. Despite heavy pressure from Coker's offense and strong defense, Carson Newman made a quick comeback at the bottom of the fifth to close the game out with a score of 5-4. 

Of the 28 at bats, Coker claimed 10 hits and four RBI's against the Eagles. Caitlyn Wray collected a double while Cameron Jackson registered the only triple for the Cobras. Brooklynn Stueness, Cameron Jackson, and Chloe Pelham (2) each had an RBI. 

Pitching against Carson Newman, Jenae Fedewa faced 26 batters and threw 44 strikes out of 59 pitches. 

Game Two:

Despite a strong start at 12 o'clock against the Eagles, Coker was not as quick to score in the second game. Carson Newman was the first to score, Macauley Bailey hitting a home run. Brooklynn Stueness and Cameron Jackson coming in hot in the top of the third inning put Coker in the lead by one. Carson Newman went on to score five unanswered runs between the third and fourth inning. It wasnt until the top of the sixth that the Cobras were able to bring their final run in; Delaney Eaves batted in by Caitlyn Wray

Of the 29 at bats, Coker registered nine hits and three RBI's against Carson Newman. Cameron Jackson, Delaney Eaves, Caitlyn Wray, and Haley McCoy all doubled throughout the second game. Cameron Jackson collected two RBI's to lead the Cobras and Caitlyn Wray also had a double.

Tibby Hessian, Cecilia Hogel, and Hannah Fisher all pitched against the Eagles. Tibby Hessian faced 22 batters, Cecilia Hogel faced six, and Hannah Fisher faced two.
