
#19 Men’s Tennis earns statement SAC win with first-ever win over 11th-ranked Wingate
Monroe, N.C. —- The 19th-ranked Catawba College men's tennis team earned its new highest ranked win in program history and its first-ever win over Wingate with a thrilling 4-3 win over the Bulldogs to remain perfect in South Atlantic Conference play on Friday in Monroe.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
- Mateo Berne and Sebastian Zabala started the day off with a 6-3 win at #3s
- Thomas Kostka and Marcos Castares pulled through with a thrilling 7-5 win at #2s to clinch a crucial doubles point
SINGLES
- Kostka remained undefeated in singles action this season with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the #2 position
- Ryosuke Inagawa pulled out a win at #6 with a 6-2, 6-4 result
- Agustin Mastri helped clinch the match with a thrilling 7-6, 7-6 victory with two tiebreakers against Wingate's top-ranked opponent to earn the momentous victory
