
Mars Hill sweeps Converse in non-conference play

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (9-7) swept Converse (6-14) Tuesday evening on the road (25-16, 25-9, 25-13) in non-conference action.
The Lions hit a match-high .414 in the first set, knocking down 15 kills on 29 swings with three errors. Defensively, Mars Hill forced Converse to commit eight errors in the frame, forcing the team into a .000 hitting percentage.
The Lions' defense held the Valkyries' hitting percentage to .000 in the second as well, causing Converse to commit seven errors. Mars Hill hit .273 in the frame and ran away with it, 25-9.
Capping off a dominant performance on the road, Mars Hill racked up a match-high 16 kills in the third. Converse placed five kills, but committed seven errors in the final frame, hitting -.049 to close out the match.
Mars Hill hit .311 as a team and was led by Brooke Hoffman. Hoffman recorded 10 kills, hitting .529 with just one error in 17 attempts. Timmons Yates added eight kills followed by seven from both Katilyn Grant and Nikkayla Stewart.
Jordan Schmucker collected the double-double with 27 assists and 11 digs. She dropped five kills on seven attempts, ending the night with a .714 hitting percentage. Laela Jimenez led all players with 23 digs.
Mars Hill hosts Winston-Salem on Saturday, October 21 at 2 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium in non-conference action.
