
Cannon records 14 kills in 3-1 win over King

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (4-1) defeated King (1-4) in four sets (25-22, 21-25, 25-7, 25-13) Saturday afternoon on the road.
Mars Hill posted 14 kills in the first set with no attack errors, hitting .269 in the frame. Both Jada Cannon and Timmons Yates knocked down five kills apiece. Katilyn Grant led the Lions with two blocks while Laela Jimenez collected eight digs.
The Tornado rallied to take the second, 25-21, with Hailee Blankenship and Bailey Fersner's three kills apiece leading the offense.
The Lions routed King in the third, holding the Tornado to just seven points. King hit -.160 in the third with seven errors on 25 attempts. Mars Hill hit a match-high .292 with the quartet of Cannon, Yates, Grant, and Ioana Poenaru recording two kills each.
Mars Hill concluded the match by recording a match-high 15 kills in the fourth with Yates' four leading the way. The Lions hit .289 and held King to a .083 hitting percentage.
Cannon and Blankenship led their respective teams with 14 kills apiece while Yates added 13 for Mars Hill. Jimenez led all players with 24 digs while Jordan Schmucker led all players with 42 assists. Skylar Ogden led all players with four blocks (4 BA) followed by three apiece from Cannon and Grant (3 BA).
The Lions open South Atlantic Conference play on Tuesday, September 12 when they face Lincoln Memorial on the road. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
