Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Anderson (S.C.)

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Coker baseball team dropped both ends of a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader to Anderson (S.C.) University on Saturday (Apr 9). The Cobras fell by a 10-3 score in game one, and a score of 4-2 in game two.

In game one, the Trojans took an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Reilly Hall drew a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored the opening run of the game for Coker on a Phill Griffor RBI single. Anderson (S.C.) tacked on three more runs in the top of the fourth inning to widen their lead. Coker responded in the top of the fifth with a Tripp Kimmel double and Reilly Hall RBI single. Hall's RBI was the 119th of his career, tying him for the Coker program record. The Cobras added one more in the eight, but the Trojans held on for the game one victory.

Griffor led the offensive effort with two hits and an RBI. Hall and Jeffcoat each had a base hit and run driven in of their own in the loss.

In game two, Anderson (S.C.) once again took an early lead with two runs in the first inning and another in the second inning. The Cobras were held off the scoreboard until the fifth inning, when Brady Jeffcoat came around to score on a Trojan throwing error to make it 3-1. The Trojans added one more in the bottom of the fifth to increase their lead back to three. Coker would push one more across in the top of the seventh on a Reilly Hall RBI groundout. This RBI gave Hall 120 RBI in his Coker career and set the new program record. Anderson (S.C.) was too much on the afternoon and took game two by the 4-2 scoreline.

Coker returns to the baseball diamond on Tuesday (Apr 12) when they attempt to avenge a season-opening loss to Barton College. First pitch is scheduled for 2pm, with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com
