HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (3-0, 1-0 SAC) shutout Coker (1-2-1, 0-1 SAC) by a score of 1-0 Saturday afternoon in their South Atlantic Conference opener.
This marks the third consecutive 1-0 win for the Lions where the only goal of the contest was scored in the second half of play.
Coker outshot the Lions 3-0 in the first frame and 12-3 throughout the contest, but were unable to solve the Lions' defense and junior goalkeeper, Camryn Miller. Miller made four saves for her third straight clean sheet, tying her career-best for most in a season.
On the Lions' second shot of the game, Samantha Swinson scored her first career goal, serving as the game-winner en route to Mars Hill's best start to a campaign since 2011 (5-0-1).
Swinson, Marianne Ross, and Kenzie Quinley attempted the three Mars Hill shots while Mila Rausch led all players with three attempts.
Mars Hill returns to the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium on Wednesday, September 13 when they host Young Harris in non-conference play. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
