
Lions drop series opener versus Bears
The Mars Hill baseball team (17-30, 6-22 SAC) was defeated by Lenoir-Rhyne (29-19, 15-13 SAC) by a score of 10-4 Friday afternoon in their series opener.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill baseball team (17-30, 6-22 SAC) was defeated by Lenoir-Rhyne (29-19, 15-13 SAC) by a score of 10-4 Friday afternoon in their series opener.
The Lions opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, scoring off of an error from the Bears' catcher. In the top of the third, the Bears plated two as Sal Carricato picked up two RBI with a double to right field.
Mars Hill responded in the bottom of the third as Alex Naran smashed a two-run home run down the left field line.
Lenoir-Rhyne retook the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring three, highlighted by Blake Bean's two-run single. Paul Martin, in the bottom of the fifth, pulled the Lions within one with a RBI double to center to plate Naran for his third run of the contest.
Carricato picked up his fourth RBI of the game, hitting a two-run home run to left center to put the Bears up 7-4. In the top of the ninth, Cole Stanford tacked on three more runs with a home run to left center.
Stanford led all players with four hits and added three RBI. Carricato led all players with four RBI. Naran and Chad Sikes led the Lions with three hits on the day.
The Lions close out the series on Saturday, April 27 on Senior Day. Senior Day recognition will begin at 11:30 a.m. with first pitch set for 12 p.m. at Henderson Field.
